Avoiding the care homes minefield
Another care home has been closed recently, and not for the first time, the reason is lack of care standards.
The Care Quality Commission ordered the immediate closure of Merok Park Nursing Home in Surrey after inspectors visited and concluded that the residents were “at significant risk of harm”. Inspectors found the home dirty and unsafe with the smell of urine present.
The home’s 26 residents were moved following the closure.
Once again it focuses on the big question which many families face when seeking care for their elderly relatives: how DO you know if the care home you choose for a parent is a safe bet?
When that day comes around and you, together with one or both of your parents, have to make the decision that a residential care home is the only way forward – you all anticipate that by choosing carefully you will make the best possible decision.
Previous closures, while on account of care standards, have also been the result of financial issues. It leads to the conclusion that it’s a minefield of options.
