White Lie….Blind Eye? (Ref: cli)

If you discover that a member of domestic/household staff lied in their CV when applying for a job, does it give you the right to dismiss them?

The answer is, well it depends…

Firstly was the lie a big one, or a white lie where they enhanced previous experience? If it was a minor enhancement, and you are satisfied with their work, the decision is yours to either take up the issue, or simply ignore it.

However, if, for example, it was a chauffeur who lied about his previous driving record, you could take the view that you would not have employed him had you been aware and take appropriate professional advice as to how to proceed.

The situation regarding dismissal is not clear cut, and we would always advise taking advice before acting.
