FLEXIBLE WORKING COULD BE THE NEW NORM
A new bill is working it’s through parliament that could make flexible working the default position for all employees – including of course domestic and household staff.
A Ten Minute Rule Bill which proposes this has been given consent to go to a second reading. It has been introduced by MP Helen Whately.
Introducing her bill, she argued that unless employers had a sound reason for having specific working hours, flexibility should be introduced into every job.
Helen Whately said in her speech that among other benefits flexible hours as the default would assist employers in retaining staff.
The range of flexible working options are more than many imagine and include the following:
Types of flexible working
- Job-sharing
- Part-time
- Compressed hours
- Flexitime
- Annualised hours
- Staggered hours
- Phased retirement
