2022 Xmas bank holiday

2022 Xmas bank holiday falls after Boxing Day

We have a year when the Christmas bank holiday falls after Boxing Day! The reason? Christmas Day falls on a weekend and there is a substitute day, with the first day available being the day after Boxing Day.

So with Boxing Day being on the 26th, Christmas Day bank holiday substitute is on Tuesday December 27th.

Also, as New Year falls on a weekend, a substitute day is required and falls on Monday January 2nd.

There is an additional Bank Holiday, this in May, in celebration of the Coronation of King Charles III. His coronation is Saturday May 6th and the bank holiday is on Monday May 8th.

Contrary to what some believe, you do NOT have the right to get paid leave on Bank or Public Holidays.  Your employer can choose to include them as part of your statutory annual leave. All your entitlements should be specified in your contract of employment.
