Do I have the right to this extra Bank Holiday?
An additional bank holiday to honour the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrating 70 years’ of service has been announced and it has impact on further traditional bank holidays.
The Jubilee date is to be Friday 3rd June, and the late May bank holiday is to be moved to Thursday 2nd June.
You may well ask “Do I have the right to this extra bank holiday”?
Well, it depends. It’s all down to the wording in your contract of employment. If your contract does indeed state you are entitled to take leave on “all bank and public holidays” your boss will be required to grant the extra day as leave. If it does not, whether they grant you the leave or not is up to them.
Additionally, your boss can choose to include Bank holidays as part of your statutory annual leave. If so this should be specified in your contract of employment.
