Eight Months Pregnant And Made Redundant

It may not be convenient for your employer if you become pregnant, but your rights are protected in law. The case of an employee, eight months pregnant, who was made redundant, reinforces that point yet again.

Helen Larkin was given two weeks notice of her redundancy by the Liz Earle Beauty Company .

The employment tribunal which heard her case awarded her over £17,000 compensation.

She said she was treated unfavourably as she had not been interviewed for two other roles similar to the one she had been doing where she had worked for five year

She told the hearing that she believed the company rushed the redundancy process to dismiss her before she went on maternity leave, which would offer her legal protections from being made redundant.

The former employee was awarded £17,303 in compensation.
