EQUESTRIAN SPORTS – EVENTING AT THE OLYMPIC GAMES
Show jumping, dressage and eventing (dressage, cross country and show jumping) are the three equestrian disciplines on the programme of this year’s Olympic Games in France.
Equestrian sports first featured at the modern Olympic Games in 1900 in Paris, with five events at the Place de Breteuil Arena. The venue for the 2024 events is The Château de Versailles (also known as the Palace of Versailles) and will feature both the Olympic and Paralympic competitions.
Initially built as a simple hunting lodge, the Château de Versailles was home to the court of Louis XIV and in 1979 became the first French site to be awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. On the subject of horses, while they are the reason for the event, socially, they are not so much the centre of attention as the outfits at Ascot Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot where tradition takes elegance and glamour to dizzy heights.
Ascot Ladies’ Day Dress Code:
There is a dress code for admission to the Queen Anne Enclosure covering ladies, men and children. Ladies should wear a dress or top with shoulder or halter neck straps with a skirt, a trouser suit, a jumpsuit and a hat (or headpiece or fascinator). Gentlemen should wear a full-length two or three-piece suit, a collared shirt, a necktie and socks. Children should comply with the above dress code, but hats, headpieces and fascinators are not compulsory.
