Extra Bank Holiday To Celebrate Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
An additional bank holiday to honouring the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrating 70 years’ of service has been announced and it has an impact on a further traditional bank holiday.
The Jubilee date is to be Friday 3rd June, and the late May bank holiday is to be moved to Thursday 2nd June.
The result of this for employers is that they face two bank holidays back to back.
So what are your legal obligations?
This will be determined by the wording in your employees’ contract of employment. If the contract does indeed state the employee is entitled to take leave on “all bank and public holidays” the employer will be required to grant the extra day as leave. If it does not, whether you grant the leave or not becomes a personal decision.
Additionally, you can choose to include Bank holidays as part of staff statutory annual leave. This should be specified in their contract of employment.
