Financial Help From The Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme…

Has Now Ended

The government’s  Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme which financially helped many employers has now ended.  It ended on March 17th and employers can no longer claim back Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) for employees’ coronavirus-related absences or self-isolation that occur.

The normal Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) rules have now kicked in.  This means that, as the employer, you can revert to paying SSP  from the fourth qualifying day your employee is off work, regardless of the reason for their sickness absence.

The HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs) opened up the SSP rebate claim in May 2020. Eligible employers have been able to recoup up to two weeks’ worth of SSP payments made to employees off work for coronavirus (COVID-19) related reasons since 13 March 2020 (16 March 2020 if the employee was shielding).
