Hi Boss, may I have a pay rise please?

If you are going to ask your boss for a salary increase, there are a couple of things you need to think about first.

Number one isn’t to say how much you would like, It is to explain why. This way your employer can understand where you are coming from and you are more likely to receive a better reception.

If the answer is ‘OK’ then you can discuss the increase with them. If the answer is ‘NO’ don’t go off and sulk, consider asking them what else can you do to justify an increase in the future.
