Holiday Time May Be A Distant Memory But Did You Actually Get Enough Time Off?
Holiday time maybe just a memory, but did you actually get the correct amount of holiday time off? Perhaps, even more importantly, do you know your holiday leave rights?
Keeping up with changes employment rules is not always easy and sometimes changes can pass you by while you’re busy working.
The questions are important as a new report shows that millions of employees are being underpaid or not paid at all.
The TUC (Trades Union Congress) research found that 2 million people in Britain were being denied their full statutory paid leave and that 1.1 million were not getting any paid leave at all.
Altogether, says the TUC lost holiday entitlement each year adds up to £3.1 billion.
Women were more likely to be affected than men, with 8.3 per cent of female workers losing out on holiday entitlement compared with 5.9 per cent of men.
Many employers, says the report, are simply not keeping up to date with the law.
To ensure you know what the legal holiday entitlement is in the UK we have provided the information below;
Workers are entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks of paid leave, or 28 days, for a typical five-day week with pro-rata entitlement for those who work less. The minimum entitlement includes eight bank holidays. Many workers are entitled to additional leave in their employment contracts.
