How To Beat The Worst Wage Squeeze In Modern History
The UK’s real wage squeeze is the worst in modern history and the slowest for 200 years, according to the Trades Union Confess (TUC) which speaks for millions of workers.
TUC says wages have lagged behind inflation since 2008 and are worth £24 less in real terms than in 2008 and won’t recover until 2025, by which time, it says, workers will have lost £18,500.
The TUC compared the current wages squeeze with every major earnings crisis over the past 200 years.
TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady recently said: “UK workers are suffering the worst pay squeeze for two centuries. It’s taking wages longer to recover from this crash than from the Great Depression and Second World War.”
The current rate of pay increases in the UK are 2.5% – and that’s better than it was. It has now held at this 2.5% figure for nine months.
