I Would Love A Trendy Tattoo But Would It Get Me Fired?

Lots of my friends have tattoos and I would love one, but could it get me the sack?

The answer is: it all depends. If your employer has a dress code which stipulates no visible tattoos, the answer is ‘Yes it can’. If it states that in your contact of employment, by having a visible tattoo, you would be breaking the terms of your contract. Whether or not your boss exercises their right to fire you is up to them.

Your best course of action is to check your contract of employment to see if there are conditions in it which stipulate no visible tattoos permitted.

If it does, and even if it does not, your best move is to discuss the issue with your boss. You do not want to offend them, even if you have the option of a tattoo. Speak before you ink…is the best plan.
