Is My Friend Right?
A good friend of mine has told me that her boss has reduced her holiday entitlement because she has been off sick for a while.
Is this correct procedure?
No, in fact not just your friend, but all staff do not need to be at work to accrue annual holiday leave. They can be off work for a variety of reasons, these include: being on long-term sickness leave, on Parental or Dependant leave, Maternity, Paternity and Shared Parental Leave.
Additionally, if anyone working as staff has been off work due to maternity leave or absence through sickness, they are entitled to carry over any unused portion of holiday leave to the following year.
