Job Application Scam
Once again, fraudsters on the internet have found a new way to take money off unsuspecting people – this time those seeking work.
As job vacancies rise, there are fake job adverts for a range of job types. Once answering the ad, applicants are directed to fake businesses. In some they are interviewed for non-existent jobs, while others they are directed immediately to another fraudulent website which claims to carry out Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, which will give details of any criminal convictions or bans from certain kinds of work, for £30. Many paid the fee and others had up to £300 stolen from their bank accounts.
