Mandatory Jabs For Care Home Staff?
For those domestic and caring staff who work in care homes, it may soon be mandatory to have a Covid-19 vaccination.
Consultations are under way between the government, unions and care homes, which may see this become a requirement of
Employment.
A five week consultation which started mid April, could see mandatory jabs being introduced by the summer. This comes after concerns that staff are not coming forward in sufficient numbers to stop the spread of the virus to residents.
The plans would require care home providers to hire only vaccinated workers, but care companies appear divided on the proposals which they say could damage the quality of care as homes struggled to recruit staff.
Health and Social Care Secretary, Matt Hancock has said:“Making vaccines a condition of employment is something many care homes have called for, to help them provide greater protection for staff and residents. We have a duty of care to those most vulnerable to Covid-19, so it is right we consider all options to keep people safe.”
