New Sick Pay Rates Kick In

Every year in April, new and updated employment law provisions come into force. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has just published new rates for sick pay.

Until now the rate for Statutory sick Pay (SSP) has been £99.35 a week for up to 28 weeks. It becomes payable from the fourth day staff have been off sick.

The new statutory rates will be £109.40 per week sick pay. The weekly earnings threshold that employees must meet to be eligible will remain at £123 per week.

Employers will be expected to comply with the new rates from the beginning of April.
