Should I get a pay rise if….
The Cost Of Living Goes Up, Am I Entitled To An Annual Pay Rise?
Staff on the National Minimum Wage and the National Living Wage are in line for an annual pay rise. As a domestic staff Employee you are, of course, not on these wage scales – indeed a lot higher, but are you entitled to an annual increase from your boss?
The answer is no, you are not entitled to an annual pay increase. There is no statutory obligation imposed on employers to increase an employee’s pay every year and even if they choose to do so, the amount is entirely at their discretion. Your contract of employment may well say that your salary will be reviewed annually, but that does not mean you will automatically get a pay rise, just that it will be reviewed. Some contracts state that an employee will receive an annual pay rise, but this is not normally the case.
There is no obligation for your boss to give you a pay rise if the cost of living goes up.
