Strawberries And Cream…It Must Be Wimbledon
It’s July and that means Wimbledon fortnight, great sport, strawberries and cream…and all dependent on our British weather.
This is The All England Lawn Tennis Club’s 137th staging of The Championships, this year held from 1 to 14 July. It is also the 100th year of the public ballot for tickets.
This year has seen an unprecedented number of applications for the ballot from the UK and around the world. The number of ballot applications increased significantly up on last year with strong international demand from US, Spain and France.
The public ballot is in addition to ticket sales but the rules on buying are very strict. If fans exceed the purchase limit of two tickets for The Championships, all additional bookings will be cancelled, and the card will be refunded. It also warns fans they can only buy tickets for one day of The Championships.
Tennis fans have become accustomed to Novak Djokovic winning Wimbledon’s gold trophy at the end of the championships in southwest London. This year he is favourite to win another title and take his grand slam tally to 24. Should Djokovic triumph, the 36-year-old will match Roger Federer’s record of five consecutive Wimbledon titles – held jointly with Björn Borg – and eight overall.
