The Police know
The Police know all about these people – I`m sure it will be ok
“I’m sure it will be fine, and the money is good. In the UK, modern slavery isn’t a big problem. There is no real risk, the police have already arrested the few that are out there.”
If only that were true!
Of 9,349 modern slavery cases recorded by the police between March last year and March this year, in the UK, police charged a suspect in only 214 of them – a rate of 2.3%.
In 4,869 cases – over 50%, police closed the case without a suspect being identified, Home Office figures have revealed.
Ten police forces did not charge a single modern slavery offence, despite closing 791 cases between them. More than half of the cases were closed without a suspect even being identified.
Modern slavery relates to people who are exploited through labour, which can include being forced to work unpaid or below the minimum wage, being trafficked for sex or being forced to work in domestic servitude.
So perhaps you know a friend or colleague in domestic employment who thinks there is no risk attached and is considering taking a new job without references just because the money sounds good. If so, send them this article to read. It may save them a lot of heartache.
