Valuables At Risk?

Employers of domestic staff accept that their employees have the run of the house when their boss is not at home, and that their employees are honest.  In nearly all cases this is true, but human nature being what it is, there may be a bad apple in some situations.

Perhaps a staff member is under financial pressures and sees jewellery in a bedroom as an answer.

In a recent case, a housekeeper at a London hotel and apartments where she worked, stole almost £400,000 worth of jewellery, watches and a bank card. Having been convicted at Southwark Crown Court she was jailed for a total of five years and eight months.

Although this case involved a hotel and apartments where guests were living, it brings into focus how, we as domestic staff employers, need to assess and re-assess how we keep valuables.

Do keep a record of all valuables? Do you keep receipts where relevant for insurance purposes? Do you photograph all your items of value, including artwork?
