What Are My Chances Of A Pay Rise?

On the basis of recent research, your chances of a pay rise are not very high at the moment and are likely to stay that way for at least the next six months.

If this sounds depressing then perhaps the best advice is to just carry on and wait for things to change.

The trend not to pay wage increases for existing staff, or offer higher rates to attract new staff, has been highlighted in recent research.

According to research carried out by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, out of the 2000 employers questioned, only 27 % – across all sectors- said they were ready and willing to pay more to either retain staff or recruit new staff.

This is seemingly at odds with the fact that almost half of those questioned said they were having difficulty filling vacancies. Two-thirds questioned also said they expected the staff shortages to be the status quo for the next six months.
