Why Changing To Flexible Working Hours May Soon Be Easier
If a new bill does progress through parliament, then being allowed to work flexible working hours may well be easier.
The reason is that the new bill, if passed, would make flexible working the default position for all employees – including of course domestic and household staff.
A Ten Minute Rule Bill which proposes this has been given consent to go to a second reading. It has been introduced by MP Helen Whately.
Introducing her bill, she argued that unless employers had a sound reason for having specific working hours, flexibility should be introduced into every job.
The range of flexible working options are more than many
imagine and includes those listed below:
Types of flexible working
- Job-sharing
- Part-time
- Compressed hours
- Flexitime
- Annualised hours
- Staggered hours
- Phased retirement
