Vulnerable Workers No Longer Need To Shield

Vulnerable Workers No Longer Need To Shield

Perhaps you are, or know a friend or colleague classified as Clinically Vulnerable and who has not had to attend  work.

It is important you are aware that everyone affected will be available to return to work from last Friday 1st April.

The shielding guidance has been paused due to falling Covid-19 infection rate and the vaccines roll out. The decision was announced by the deputy chief medical officer (CMO) for England, Dr. Jenny Harries.

More than nine in 10 clinically extremely vulnerable people have now received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Those who have been  shielding will soon receive a letter confirming that from 1 April they will no longer be eligible for statutory sick pay or Employment and Support Allowance if they cannot work on the basis of being advised to shield. They may still qualify for these support schemes if they fall ill.

Those affected may still be eligible for the furlough scheme, which will remains in place until 30 September 2021.
