A Contract Is A Contract
In the current employment situation, with furlough ending and changes in the air, it is a possibility that your boss may end your employment.
How this is done, however, must respect the conditions of your contract of employment, unless there are special grounds for dismissal.
If your contract states, for example, that you are to be given 8 weeks written notice of termination of employment, that is your legal entitlement, unless your dismissal was a direct result of Serious Misconduct.
So what constitutes Serious Misconduct? It includes theft, fraud, assault, or refusing to carry out a lawful and reasonable instruction that was part of your job.
If the above conditions do not apply, the very least an Employment Tribunal will do is to award you your wages for the period in which you should have been paid, i.e. your notice of termination. Further costs may also be awarded.
